Treatment for Impotence

Looking for Treatments
•ED treatment pills such as Viagra (Sildenafil), Levitra (Vardenafil) and Cialis (Tadalafil) form the first-line therapy. Belonging the class of medicine called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, these prescription only medicines form the most convenient and effective methods to achieve successful erection. The Blue pills allow men with ED to have sex just by popping a pill an hour before sex.

• Injection - For the second-line therapy, your doctor may recommend injections. Drugs such as alprostadil are injected into the shaft of the penis when erection is needed. Erection follows in 15 minutes. A person may learn to inject himself or train his partner do so.

• Vacuum pump – Consisting of a plastic cylinder and a suction pump, vacuum pumps are often used by men who do not want to go for pills or injections. Vacuum pumps help a man to achieve erection which is then maintained using tension rings.

• Penis implant – When all other ED treatment methods fail to produce erections, your doctor may recommend penis implant. This surgical method is painful, expensive and just like all surgeries involves a risk of infection.

• Hormone replacement therapy – This may be used in rare cases, when ED is known to be caused due to hormonal imbalance such as reduced level of male sex hormone testosterone.

• Counselling – When the cause of ED is psychological in nature or due to relationship problems, your doctor may refer counseling and sex therapy. The treatment method aims at re-establishing sexual relationship between couples. Counseling may be used in conjunction with other treatments.
